Benson’s Bookbinders was founded by Chris Narayan to offer his 40 years plus experience of hand bookbinding and box making.

Chris left his native Aberdeen in the early 1980s to serve his apprenticeship with the last remaining bookbinders in the City of London, RG Scales who operated out of the historic Inner Temple just off Fleet Street specialising in Law work and during this time he also attended the London College of Printing.

Returning to Aberdeen in 1990, Chris joined a family firm George Jolly Bookbinders later to be acquired by the D C Thompson Group. After which in 1998 Chris became Head Bookbinder for Aberdeen University heading up a 7 strong team bindery team serving the University’s libraries as well as attending the Glasgow College of Printing.

In 2001 Chris was offered the chance to work at the largest hand bindery of its kind in Canada on the multi-award winning Antarctica project where he stayed working for Felton Bookbinding Ltd for 11 years.

Returning to London in 2012 Chris set about helping multiple print companies create inhouse bookbinding departments. Following their successes Chris set upon creating his own bindery company to serve the print trade and beyond.

During Chris’s career he has been lucky enough to win numerous awards in both Canada and the UK including awards from Printweek, Digital Printer Magazine, Trades House of Glasgow and North American Independent Publishers Book Awards.

Bensons Bookbinding specialise in both traditional and contemporary bookbinding and box making. Whether you are a private collector or have a library in need of repair or restoration or a company requiring something special for a project or for a particular pitch or presentation Benson’s are here to help.

Chris also has his City & Guilds teaching certificate and has given classes and demonstrations to both the public and business community.
